COMPETITIVE MOAT

Extensive Midstream Infrastructure Network

ET possesses a vast and integrated network of pipelines and storage facilities. This scale creates significant barriers to entry for new competitors seeking to replicate its reach.

Long-Term Fee-Based Contracts

A substantial portion of ET's revenue is secured through long-term contracts with producers and end-users. This insulates it from commodity price volatility and provides predictable cash flows.

Strategic Location and Access

ET's assets are strategically positioned to access key production basins and demand centers, including export terminals. This logistical advantage is difficult for rivals to replicate.

INVESTMENT RISKS

Operational and Safety Incidents

Pipeline leaks or other operational failures can lead to significant environmental damage, costly cleanups, and reputational harm. These events can disrupt operations and impact financial performance.

Interest Rate Sensitivity

As a capital-intensive business with significant debt, ET is sensitive to changes in interest rates. Rising rates can increase financing costs and reduce profitability.

Customer Concentration Risk

While contracts provide stability, a significant portion of revenue may be tied to a limited number of large customers. The loss of a major customer could materially impact earnings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the PE ratio of ET?

The trailing twelve-month PE ratio of ET reflects how much investors pay per dollar of Energy Transfer LP's earnings. This metric is most useful when compared to Oil & Gas Midstream peers and the company's own historical range.

Is ET overvalued based on PE ratio?

ET's PE of 15.1x combined with a PEG ratio of -1357794956909272.75 provides a growth-adjusted perspective. ET has negative earnings, so its PE and PEG ratios are not meaningful here and cannot tell you whether the stock is over or undervalued. Keep in mind that PE-based valuation works best for profitable, mature companies — for high-growth or cyclical Oil & Gas Midstream, a DCF analysis may be more appropriate.

How do I value ET stock using PE ratio?

To value Energy Transfer LP using PE: (1) Compare the current PE (15.1x) against the Oil & Gas Midstream median to assess relative pricing, (2) check the PEG ratio (-1357794956909272.75) to adjust for growth expectations, (3) review the 5-year PE range to identify where the stock sits historically, and (4) estimate fair value by multiplying a target PE by forward EPS estimates. This relative approach complements DCF's absolute valuation.

What is the PEG ratio of ET?

ET's PEG ratio is -1357794956909272.75, calculated by dividing the PE ratio (15.1x) by the expected earnings growth rate. Because ET has negative earnings, its PEG ratio is not meaningful and should not be read as a sign of under or overvaluation. Note that PEG accuracy depends on the reliability of growth estimates.

Should I use PE ratio or DCF for ET stock valuation?

PE ratio gives a quick relative read — how ET is priced versus Oil & Gas Midstream peers. DCF provides an absolute value based on projected free cash flows. For the most reliable valuation, use PE as a quick comparability screen and DCF for a deeper fundamental analysis. Each method has blind spots: PE ignores capital structure and cash flow quality, while DCF is sensitive to growth and discount rate assumptions.
